It was another busy World Championship weekend for Team Canada athletes.
Team Homan has completed two missions. Defending the world title and is the Canadian qualifier for Milan Cortina 2026 with women’s curls.
Michael Kingsbury won his fourth straight world title in the dual moguls, while Salamitton became the back-to-back indoor champion of the world with Shotput. There was also a world record where Race Walker Evan Dunphy and Liam Blairy won his historic world titles in snowboard slope style.
Here are the highlights behind the heading.
Curling: Team Homan won the second straight world title
Team Canada defended gold at the World Women’s Curling Championships, winning a 7-3 victory in Switzerland in the final. With consecutive world titles, Canada is the top ranked qualifier for next year’s Women’s Olympic Tournament.

In the game that was a repeat of last year’s final, Team Homan distanced himself from his opponent and stole two points in the eighth end, moving up to 6-3. Another stolen point on the ninth end brought a handshake when the Swiss admitted.
Team Homan – Skipp Rei Chel Homan, Vice Skip Tracy Fleury, Second Emma Miskew, Reed Sarah Wilkes and Alternate Rachel Brown are Canada’s first team to win two consecutive women’s world titles since Sandra Schmeer’s teams in 1993 and 1994.
To reach the gold medal game, Team Homan had to go through the qualifying game to advance to the semi-finals. They sent Scotland 10-4 10-4 on eight ends after scoring four points in the second end, then blowing three more points into the fourth end, opening early. They then ended South Korea 6-5 more. These were the only two teams to beat Canada during the round robin.
Athletics: Mitton defends world indoor shot put title, Dunphy’s world record
Sarah Mitton held her women’s shot at the World Athletics Indoor Championships held in Nanjing, China on Friday. In her last attempt, the 28-year-old threw 20.48 metres. She marked third and third in her career behind the Canadian record 20.68m. She achieved both indoors and outdoors.
Mitton’s second and fourth throws were measured at 20.36m and 20.15m, which was enough to win the indoor world title for the second year in a row. Dutch Jessica Silder (20.07m) took silver ahead of US bronze medalist Chase Jackson (20.06m).
“I’m really happy with what happened today,” said Mitten, who modified the technique he threw in the hopes of increasing the distance. “There’s really nothing I can do to stop them from throwing far away. And honestly, today was really fun. Everyone went well. There were three girls over 20 metres, multiple 20 metres throws.
“I try not to concentrate too much on what they’re doing. What works for me is focusing on the circles. To show us what we can do is step into my role model era. Five years ago, I didn’t think I was here.”
Meanwhile, at the World Athletics Race Walking Gold Meeting in Dudince, Slovakia, Evan Dunphy broke the world record on Saturday in a men’s 35km race walk. The 34 Canadian recorded 2:21:40, knocking for seven seconds from the mark set before October.
Dunfee has improved his personal best time at the event for over three minutes. The 35km race walk is not an Olympic program, but it is included in the World Athletics Championships, replacing the 50km race walk, the event that Dunphy won the Olympic Bronze in Tokyo 2020.
