Islam critic Ayaan Hirsi Ali says Muslims are introducing sharia law in the United Kingdom “by stealth.”
There are 85 unofficial Sharia courts settling matters among Muslims such as marriage, custody and inheritance. These courts, acknowledged by the UK government, are actually subverting law, rights, equality, British values and culture, Ayaan says. They grant women half value as a man in terms of testimony and adjudicate in favor of men, she adds.
At the same time, Muslims in the UK are demanding places of prayer be opened up in schools and hospitals to accommodate the 5 daily prayers for Muslims. They’re also demanding halal food only be used in those institutions.
A survey indicated that 1.6M Muslims want Sharia law to become the official law for everyone.
Merry old England, you’re not going to be merry any more: no more equal rights, women will have to cover their entire bodies and hair, no more monogamy, thieves may have their hands chopped off, rapists will be let go, apostates will be killed, even music could be banned.
“The islamist groups want a parallel society,” Hirsi said on Sky New Australia. “It’s insidious, it’s sharia by stealth.”
Will the UK wake up to what is happening?
The Sharia courts are run in communities heavily populated by Muslims. As religious courts, they have no official jurisdiction and obedience is voluntary. Since many Muslims take their religion very seriously, they ascribe them even more authority than civil courts.
They get married in these courts, settle inheritance disputes in the courts, get divorced by them. Under sharia law, a man may beat his wife, may have more than one wife, is valued twice as much in terms of veracity of his testimony than a woman. This is what the Koran and the hadiths teach.
Hence in the UK, you have people who aren’t even married legally by UK law going around considering themselves married before Allah. Since the Koran allows a man to marry four wives, polygamy is practiced and legitimized in these communities. As a result, women are oppressed, Hirsi says.
There’s the case of Mohammed Hijab, a famous Muslim YouTuber, who was sleeping with a girl, saying it was halal, lawful, because they were married or were going to get married. He didn’t provide for her but took advantage of her, she exposed him online.
The UK officially allows these courts to help manage the religious communities and sometimes even backs up their decisions. In the UK, politicians are extremely careful not to offend Muslims, fearing that criticizing their customs would be Islamophobia. The UK has a skinhead past that they want to distance themselves from.
But there’s a huge difference between racism and allowing Sharia.
Labour politicians have called for and supported the idea of limiting free speech; a blasphemy law would be implemented to ban criticism of the prophet, the Koran and the customs of Muslims.
People who remember a time when you could burn a Bible to celebrate your atheism are concerned that Islam is being coddled and cozied in a way that Christianity never was.
Labour politicians want the Muslim vote, but they also believe that their embrace of Islam is the new moral conduct code of the revered value of multiculturalism. But granting a little sway to Muslims can lead to a lot of sway. A dangerous precedent can be set, leading to Muslims imposing their laws on non-Muslims.
It is due to these circumstances that Hirsi, who escaped an oppressive marriage under Sharia in Somalia by immigrating to the West, is crying foul.
“In these parallel communities or ghettos the Muslims who live there, it starts with quote unquote voluntary,” Hirsi says. “But over time when an entire neighborhood or an entire town is majority Muslims, then these Sharia courts pop up and the people who go there, the women who are taken there feel that the laws and the adjudication in these courts is legally binding for them.
“The real blame lies with the British government,” she says. “It is the British government that has allowed this to happen.”
A survey by J.L. Partners in February found that one-third of British Muslims felt it would be “desirable” to implement sharia law in the next two decades.
The same survey found that 15% of British Muslims view Hamas positively and 40% believe Hamas committed no atrocities on Oct. 7, 2022.
Hirsi is calling attention to the creeping sharia in the UK and in Australia.
“I would also urge feminists in Australia to stand up for the rights of girls, Muslim girls and Muslim women, because we always know. First it is the Muslim girls and women, and then it is the other women.”
After seeking refuge in Holland and becoming an atheist and outspoken critic of Islam, Hirsi moved to America and became a Christian.
