March 11, 2025
The world curling competition will return to Korea when the LGT World Women’s Curling Championship 2025 will be performed at Wijingbu Arena, just outside the capital Seoul from March 15th to 23rd.
This year’s event is the best annual championship for women in Curing, and the final chance for the National Olympic Committee to secure direct entry to the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Olympics.
The points accumulated from both the previous season’s World Championships and this event determines the seven direct Olympic slots available (host Italy already qualifies). All other member associations participating in this championship are eligible for the Olympic Qualifying Event held in December 2025 and will offer two additional Olympic Winter Olympic spots.
team
A total of 13 teams are in the lineup. The team competed in the event through the Pancontinental Curling Championship 2024 or the Le Glière AOP European Curling Championship 2024.
Teams qualified from the Pan Continental Championship (in the order of completion) are Canada, Korea (host), China, Japan and the United States.
Qualifiers for the AOP Le Gruyere European Championship (in the order of completion) are: Switzerland, Sweden, Scotland, Italy, Denmark, Türkiye, Norway, and Lithuania.
Among these:
Canada is the defending champion and is being skipped by Rachel Homan. She is making her fifth appearance and has won medals every time she participates, including two gold.
China is skipped to Wang Rui, who appears in her sixth world, and is second as Skip. The team won the bronze medal at the Pancontinental Curling Championship 2024.
Denmark features experienced DuPont sisters, with Skip Madeleine and second player Dennis competing for the 16th time. This team finished sixth last season.
Italy is being skipped by governing Olympic mixed doubles champion Stefania Constantini. The team finished fourth last season.
Japan’s skip Yoshimura Sayaka will appear three times as Japan wants to improve its 11th place finish last season.
South Korea won bronze at the World Championships last year and silver at the Pancontinental Curling Championship earlier this season. Skip Gim Eunji will be her sixth appearance, and her third as a skip.
Lithuania’s Skip Virginia Paulauskite leads the team that won the appearance of Lithuania’s historic first world championships by qualifying from the Le Griere AOP European Curling Championship this season.
Norway is skipped by third-player Marianne Roervik. The team finished 9th last year and is aiming to return to the 2023 medal-winning style.
Scotland is skipped by Sophie Jackson, who plays the lead. They finished 8th last year and won European bronze earlier this season.
Sweden’s Skip Anna Hasselborg leads the 2018 Olympic champion in the eighth World Championship action. They won European silver earlier this season.
Swiss Skip Silvanatillinzoni plays third, but will compete in his ninth World Championships. She has four world titles and a silver medal from last year in her name. The Swiss dominate the European champions.
Dilsat Yildiz of Türkiye will skip the team for his fourth consecutive campaign. So far in this competition, Türkiye’s highest position was in 2023 at 8th place.
Just as the Americans are trying to improve in 7th place last season, the US is being skipped by Tabitha Peterson, who will make their eighth appearance.

Format and Schedule
This is the first time that an international curling event has been held at Uijeongbu. However, this is the second world women’s curling championship in Korea. Previously, an edition of the 2009 event was performed at Gangneung.
South Korea has held a total of 13 world curling championships, hosting the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics and the Paralympic Winter Olympics and the Gang One 2024 Youth Olympics. Most recently, Korea held the 2024 World Wheelchair Curling Championship and the Mixed Double Scarling Championship for Wheelchairs at Gang Nungg.
Overall, the team will finish Saturday, March 15th to Friday, March 21st, with 20 round robin plays. Following this, the top six teams will advance to knockout play with medals decided on Sunday, March 23rd.
