As growing numbers of people “hate” reading, Christian creatives are designing ways to entice them into the Bible.
There’s the Action Bible, which brings the great narratives to life via full color manga, has sold 4 million copies.
“It’s a very inviting Bible,” says Brock Eastman, the Bible’s project director. “We’re bringing the bible to life in a different way for this generation specifically. There’s a narrative, like a paraphrase, of the Bible story that’s easy to understand and sounds like a conversation.”
Then too, there’s a Bible video game currently under development called Gate Zero that will transports players into exploring the Biblical world with interaction scenes.
“Just as the printing press made the Bible accessible to the masses, young people, they don’t read anymore,” says Arve Solli, lead developer of the game. “To understand the great hope we have in Jesus, you have to spend time with (the Biblical narrative).”
Once you pique people’s curiosity about the Bible, they delve into the true Word of God. These outreaches are only meant to be a gateway, the developers says.
Similarly, Truplay offers games via an app to give kids meaningful games.
“It’s a faith-forward solution for families,” says Brent Drusing of Truplay. “Kids are already on their screens 50 hours a week. Most of the time they’re playing games. “Our vision is to change an entire generation.”
