Canada will announce $29.8 billion in retaliation tariffs in the US on Wednesday in response to President Donald Trump’s steel and aluminum tariffs, Canadian officials said.
The official rejected the name.
The increase in tariffs on Trump’s steel and aluminum imports came into effect Wednesday as a campaign to sort the US-favorable global trade standards as previous exemptions, tax exemption allocations, product exclusions expired.
Canada is the largest foreign supplier of steel and aluminum for the United States.
The escalation of the US-Canadian trade war came when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau prepared to hand over power this week to his successor Mark Carney, who won the ruling liberal leadership race on Sunday.
On Monday, Carney said he could not speak to Trump until he was sworn as prime minister. Again on social media, Trump said Canada was “hoping to become our precious 50 first states.”
